Sometimes I wonder why I can’t think of a thing, not just to write, but to sew, to create. How should I design my flower bed this year? I need to send a birthday card and want it to be homemade. I am staring at a blank piece of paper and not inspired. I just can’t find where my creativity has gone over the years. I used to be more creative.
However, lately, I am feeling more creative once again. Gee…I wonder why? I am thinking what has made all the difference. Isn’t it funny how sometimes you will ask a question and sooner than you think, the answer comes.
Did you know that playing the piano makes you more creative? Just follow my link her for you to read because I can’t remember where I first read this. No wonder I was so creative with the kids when I had my Child Care business, years ago. I played my piano often.
Lately I have been doing just that. Not only am I getting better at the tunes I used to play very well. I’ve had this piano now for almost a year….maybe closer to nine months. Once I read that article….wherever it is….I thought I printed it. It is somewhere. Once I read it, that encouraged me to get in the habit to play more.
Sure enough, I went to my sewing room and am now being able to put things together in there and create my totes as I like them. It does help though to spend time doing the things you love and soon you will find your niche.
You will get in a groove and you won’t even want to stop to eat. Seriously, sometimes breaking just to eat seems to me to be such a waste of time. Why not just eat when you are hungry, or feel like it. My husband lives by the clock, a schedule or a list. Not me. I am just the opposite. But, he keeps me on time (Not that I am ever late for an appointment…I’m not.), and I keep him from working too much at too many things in one day.
I hope you will find your groove if you are feeling lost in your thoughts to create. I am sure there are other things someone can do besides playing the piano, to get the wheels turning. I think the key is you have to walk away and do something totally unrelated and things will come to you. Our mind basically has to be somewhere else or maybe concentrating on something else. Not sure. I am no expert.
Sometimes I can be watching the hummingbirds at my feeders and a thought will come to me. I could be chopping an onion or washing the bathroom mirror. Maybe we all just move too fast, worry too much and take too much time on the things that don’t matter. If we slow down, leave your burdens with your Creator God who loves you, and spend more time doing the things you love….be it family, playing your piano, listening to music or taking a walk. Creativity will come but you can’t force it. It needs air flow, the right ambiance in a room, stillness. Yes….be still long enough…just…be still.
